What is neogeography?
Neogeography is the collective term for the recent popularisation of geographic and mapping technology that has brought advanced mapping and geographic principles to a mass audience.
This includes the recent boom in GPS unit sales for car navigation, the inclusion of GPS units in mobile phones, for maps, directions and service location applications, and services such as Google Earth and Google Maps. The term could also be applied to the increase in popularity of virtual worlds such as Second Life.
In contrast to historical geographical principles, accuracy has been replaced by accessibility to and usability by a broader market.
